Turn off chat for special event

We always have issues with this and I'm wondering how others solve this problem. 

 

EX:

We have a company meeting scheduled for 1PM, when chat is normally open. Our site shows our chat hours as 9-5. We want to close chat early today, but if we change the time of closure, it still shows on our site as open. The customer gets a message that chat closes at 12:30 on Wednesdays (for example, if changing the close time is used.) Why is there nothing built into chat to allow for custom "away" messages?

 

How do you resolve this issue?

Unfortunately the only thing to do is adjust your chat hours (which then show as being closed on "X day at X time" - ie, Wednesdays at 1PM) or have all your agents log out completely. If there are customers still being queued, you'd have to cut them off in order to get out of the chat.

 

I've submitted a request to pro-services. Unfortunately this appears to be the only option today. We should post this on the idea lab for sure!

I had this situation once. For the day I wanted to shut down I created a Holiday called "Down for Maintenance". Unfortunately, the chat window shows the customer that "Down for Maintenance" is listed as a Holiday...As bad as that is it was better than changing all the times for every interface.

When we're closed for holidays, we just get a generic "Closed for the holiday" description. How do you show the actual holiday in your messaging?
